Gameplay

A world to reclaim

An idle RPG of ruin and reclamation - deep enough for theorycrafters, light enough to enjoy in the gaps of your day.

Idle combat

No twitch inputs. You author the Battle Plan - targeting, skills, priorities - and your hero carries it out.

Deep crafting

Break down loot into echoes, inscribe new power at the bench, and refine every piece of your build.

Fair by design

Everything you wear is found or crafted by playing. The game runs on our servers, so nobody buys or hacks their way past you.

Deep build identity

War Sigils, talents, and your Battle Plan turn raw stats into a build that is unmistakably yours.

Offline progress

Progress continues while you're away. Come back to collect what you earned.

Bosses & The Ascent

Face the realm's fallen guardians and climb The Ascent, a proving ladder of escalating trials.

Choose your path

Three classes

Each is a surviving tradition of the orders that once held the veil. Pick the one that fits how you want to play.

Vanguard

The shield-law of the old wardens. Hold the line, bear the burden, and outlast everything the realm throws at you.

Hunter

The tracker's tradition. Stalk the breaches, strike what slips through, and finish with practiced precision.

Arcanist

The inscriber's art. Bend the realm's failing runework to your will - without being consumed by it.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is Embershroud?
An idle RPG set in a fading realm beneath an ancient runic veil. Explore the lands above and the depths below, reclaim lost power, and decide the fate of a world that was never fully sealed.
What platforms can I play on?
The alpha playtest is PC-only to begin with. Mobile may join later playtest rounds, and the full launch is planned for Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android.
Can I play across PC and mobile?
Yes. Your character lives on our servers, not on one device. To use the same account across different platforms - like PC and mobile - you link an email address and sign in with the one-time six-digit code we send you. Embershroud account sign-in does not use a password.
Do I need to create an account?
There is no separate registration form. You can sign in with Steam on PC, with Apple Game Center or Google Play Games on mobile, or with an email address and a one-time six-digit code. A device-only route may also be available before you link another sign-in method. Your game account is created automatically.
How much does it cost?
Embershroud is free to play. The alpha playtest is free to join - access is requested through our Discord.
Is it pay-to-win?
No. We never sell combat stats, gear, or competitive advantage to the person paying - everything you wear is found or crafted by playing. Supporters can fund the Wardfire: realm-wide bonuses that every player on the server receives equally, such as more XP, richer salvage and more item drops. The Wardfire itself grants no combat stats and no drop-chance bonus. Its XP bonus also speeds up Valor, the capped progression every player earns after level 100, whose small bonuses include health, rare-drop chance and minor combat stats - so it changes how fast everyone reaches that cap, never how high it goes. Scored runs use the Valor you had when they started, and the Wardfire does not apply in Sprints and Forays, where speed of progress is the competition. If a purchase would let someone pay to beat you, it isn't in the game.
How do you stop cheating?
Embershroud is server-authoritative: the game runs on our servers and your client only displays what the server calculates. Your stats, items and progress all live server-side, so they cannot be edited or hacked from a modified client - which keeps things fair for everyone and keeps your progress safe.
Do I have to grind? How "idle" is it?
There's no manual grinding or twitch input. You author the Battle Plan - targeting, skills, priorities - and your hero carries it out, even while you're offline. The depth is in theorycrafting and refining your build, not repetitive clicking.
Are there guilds and social features?
Guilds start in a basic form during the playtest, with guild chat to coordinate. Bigger guild features - like cooperative guild bosses - are planned for after launch.
When can I play?
Alpha playtest updates are announced in our Discord - join for the latest timing and to request access. The Steam page and wishlist open after the playtest.
Will my alpha progress carry over?
Alpha is a testing and balancing phase, so progress made during the alpha is wiped when the game launches - everyone starts fresh at release. We will always be upfront about resets in our Discord.
How do I share feedback or report bugs?
Our Discord is the place - playtest feedback directly shapes the game.
Who is making Embershroud?
Embershroud is made by Iterative Studios, the original creators of Nordicandia.
